Richardson Funeral Services at Cambridge Methodist Church
Special to the Journal.
Cambridge, Aug. 6--The funeral of George Richardson was held at the Methodist church in Cambridge Monday morning at 11 o'clock, with his pastor, the Rev. J. Wesley Peterson officiating.The music consisted of a solo "Does Jesus Care?" sung by Lyle Thompson of Center Junction, a former college classmate of Dale Richardson and also his present employer. A duet "Going Down the Valley" by H. E. Pence and E. O. Mattox and "Rock of Ages" as a trio by the Messrs. Thompson, Pence and Mattox, accompanied by Mrs. Peterson at the piano.
The many beautiful floral offerings were cared for by Mrs. T. E. Wagley and Mrs. Art Simpson.
The pall bearers were the four sons and two grandsons of Mr. Richardson, Oliver, Harry, Dale and John Richardson and George Richardson and Max McHone.
Interment was made in the Cambridge cemetery.
George Maxwell Richardson, son of the late Harvey J. and Margaret Richardson was born in Cambridge, Iowa February 19, 1858, and passed away Friday evening at 7 o'clock at his home at the age of 67 years, 5 months and 14 days.
His entire life was spent in this community. He was married Sept. 3, 1888, to Minnie Ann Fuller.
To this union was born eleven children, four sons, Floyd, Harvey, Hanford and Freddie, preceding him in death.
He is survived by his wife; four sons, Oliver C. Harry P., Dale C. and John J. all of Cambridge; three daughters, Mrs. Margaret Crosby, Newton, Mrs. Grayce McHone, Cambridge and Mrs. Sylvia Swanson, Kelley.
Nineteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive.
Mr. Richardson leaves one sister Mrs. Louie Young of West Fir, Oregon.
He was a member of the United Brethren church of White Oak and the I. O. O. F. lodge.
Mr. Richardson was active in civic community affairs. At the time of his passing he was president of the White Oak school board.
Mr. Richardson will be greatly missed in the White Oak church where he has been a faithful member and contributor to the spiritual and financial support. He was esteemed most highly because of his virtues of integrity, honesty and sobriety.
He has often been a delegate to the Iowa Conference and had the interest of the church at large at heart, and leaves to those behind the rich legacy of noble deeds, kindly interests and true Christian fidelity.
Among the relatives and friends from out of town were:
Mr. and Mrs. Olivia Fuller, Mr. John Fuller and daughter Juanita of Mingo; Mrs. John Mullihan and daughters, Mrs. Moore and Gola of Collins; Mrs. Anna Johnson and daughter Ethel of Eldora; Mrs. Harley Elliott and daughter Marjorie of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cline of Sheldahl; Lyman and Lyle Thompson, Louis and Merlin Dereibelbis and Marvin Blahn, all of Center Junction, schoolmates of the Richardson brothers.
