THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday November 7, 1918, page 1, bottom of column 3. OBITUARY - "FLORENCE ELNORA WHITNEY - Florence Elnora Whitney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Whitney, was born on a farm near Hubbard, Iowa, July 28, 1895, and died at the home of her parents October 31, 1918, her age being twenty-three years, three months and three days. With her parents, the family moved from Hubbard to a farm near Mingo, Iowa, eighteen months after her birth. At the age of three they moved to the farm where the family has lived for the last twenty years. At the age of twelve she joined the Evangelical church at Loring, and in 1917 she transferred he membership to the Methodist church at Maxwell, being a member of that church at the time of her death. She leaves to mourn her early departure her father and mother and two sisters, Esther Mary and Laura Irene. Short services were conducted at the home by her pastor, Rev. H. D. Henry, and her body was laid to rest at Colfax. Her life has gone back to the God who gave it. She is now at home. We who remain for a little while must remember the words of the poet: There is a day of sunny rest For every dark and troubled night: And grief may bide, an evening guest; But joy shall come with early light. And thou, who, o'er thy friend's low bier Shadiest the bitter drops like rain, Hope that a brighter, happier sphere, Will give her to thy arms again. For God has marked each sorrowing day, and numbered every secret tear. And heaven's long age of bliss shall pay For all His children suffer here."
