Maxwell, April 13--The funeral services for Mrs. C. A. Wickard, who passed away Tuesday morning at her home, were held Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at the Methodist church. Rev. Ivan La Favre of the Mt. Zion church at Loring had charge of the services assisted by Rev. W. M. Scheuermann.

The songs "Abide With Me" and "My Wonderful Dream" were sung by a male quartet composed of Earl Bowen, Ross Olinger, Clark and Dale John with Mrs. Lu John at the piano.

The pall bearers were Geo. Jones, Carl Cook, R. L. Underhill, H. E. Gibson, A. E. Harris and Mrs. Anderson, Walter Hawkins and W. B. Holland were honorary pall bearers.

Interment was in the Maxwell cemetery.

Margaret Caroline Tufts, daughter of Josiah and Mary Tufts, was born August 16, 1871 in Jasper Co., near Mingo, Iowa, and closed her earthly life April 9, 1935 at the age of 63 years, 7 month and 24 days.

She spent most of her early years in Audubon county, where she first began her teaching. She continued her teaching in the Farrar and Mingo vicinities.

On Christmas day, in 1901, she was married to Clayton A. Wickard by Rev. S. S. Scull. Mr. and Mrs. Wickard made their home two miles west of Farrar; then later moved south of Mt. Zion church at Loring south of Maxwell. The last eighteen years have ben spent in Maxwell where Mrs. Wickard entered extensively into the social and religious life of the community.

Into this home four children were born: Mrs. Oliver Hill of Denver, Colorado; Morton Dwight of Des Moines; Beulah Jo of Oklahoma City and Mrs. Victor Fisher of Dubuque, Iowa.

Besides these children and her husband, Mrs. Wickard is survived by four sisters: Mrs. Frank L. Evans of Colfax, Mrs. Harold Hill of Farrar; Mrs. John Mickle of Mitchellville and Mrs. Earnest Graham of Mingo and one brother Percy Tufts of Bondurant.

She has been president of the Woman's Missionary society and delegate to the Iowa Conference. Last Sunday she taught the Gleaners, her young peoples' Sunday school class at Loring.

In Maxwell, Mrs. Wickard was a member of Farm Bureau, Woman's club and president of the Garden club.

Her interests were wide and her sympathies knew no boundaries. Hers was a graciousness of manner that put every one at ease, and enabled all to be at their best in her presence. She was most charitable in her judgments. She believed the best of everyone and demonstrated an unshaken faith in the essential nobility of all mankind.

He children knew her as comrade constant and tender, quick with laughter, slow to reprove. She counseled, but did not command. She was all beauty that the word "mother" can ever imply for she was her children's friend. To them her life was a daily challenge to the best.

A mother like this one can never really die, for she lives and grows always in the memory of her children and in the great unfailing memory of God.

Relatives from a distance attending the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Frank L. Evans and Mr. and Mrs. Willard Cleverley of Colfax; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hill and Florence Hill of Farrar; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Graham, Francis, Forest and Don Graham of Mingo; Mr. and Mrs. Ira Walker of Afton; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tufts, Percy Tufts and Gerald Tufts of Bondurant; Irad Wolf and Tom Mitchell of Toledo; Mr. and Mrs. H. E. LaSalle, Bessie and Zeta Murphy of Des Moines.

Mrs. Wickard became an earnest consecrated Christian early in life and joined the Farrar Methodist Protestant church and later was faithful member and leader in Mt. Zion Evangelical church at Loring.
