Former Huxley Man Died In Denver

Special to the Journal.
Huxley, Feb. 20--Funeral services for John Seward Slattenow of Denver, Colo., who passed away Feb. 6 at 6:00 a. m. were held in Denver at the Olinger Drawing Room, 16th and Boulder, on Feb. 12th at 1:00 p. m. Services were in charge of Rev. G. A. Schmidt, Lutheran pastor. Two vocal selections, "Under His Wings" and "Rock of Ages" were sung by Frank W. Farmer, accompanied on the organ by Miss Flora Taub. His remains were laid to rest in the Fairmount cemetery at 2:00 p. m.

John Seward Slattenow was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Byron Slattenow. He was born Oct. 2, 1876 in Story county.

He grew to manhood in this community, living with his parents, on a farm two miles east of Kelley. In 1905 he went west for his health. He had not returned here since that time. He live in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, California and Colorado. The greater part of the time was spent in Denver.

Last June he was struck by a passing automobile and his leg was broken and he received other injuries from which he had not entirely recovered at the time he became ill with pneumonia, which proved fatal within a few days. He reached an age of 58 years, 4 months and 4 days.

His mother passed away 21 years ago and his father 18 years ago and his father 18 years ago. He is survived by four brothers, Anfin of Crystal Lake, Iowa; George of Minneapolis, Minn.; Severin M. of Brandt, S. D. and Deo of Des Moines and three sisters, Mrs. Sina Lande, Mrs. Stena Lande and Mrs. Millie Risvold all of Huxley. Two brothers died in infancy. None of the relatives were in attendance at the funeral.
