THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, August 28, 1902, page 4, column 4. "Died. - Susan A. Shelley was born in Virginia March 2, 1850 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Porter, near Elwell, Iowa, August 25, 1902; aged fifty-two years, five months and twenty-three days. She was married to Conrow Vannote at Farmer City, Ill., July 25, 1869. To this union were born seven children, five of whom are still living. She was a faithful member of the M. E. church and was an active christian worker. The deceased had been in poor health for some time and her husband and children brought her to Iowa some time ago hoping that a change of climate would help her but their hopes were in vain. The funeral was conducted in the Elwell M. E. church Wednesday by Rev. O. F. Shaw pastor of the Maxwell M. E. church and the body was brought to this city for interment. The sorrowing friends have the sympathy of the community."
