FORMER SLATER MAN WAS BURIED
FUNERAL FOR RASMUS VILAND WAS HELD AT BETHLEHEM CHURCH
Slater, May 7--Funeral services for Rasmus P. Viland, 75, of Haywood, Minn., were held at the Bethelehem church here Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The services were in charge of Rev. E. R. Rorem. His text was taken from Revelations 14 Chap. 13th verse. Many beautiful floral offerings surrounded the casket. A quartette composed of Otis Anderson, A. Maland, Mrs. M. S. Heggen and Mrs. A. L. Peterson sang "Beautiful Garden of Prayer," "Jesus Lover of My Soul," and "Fade, Fade Each Earthly Joy."
The pall bearers were T. W. Rawson, A. Maland, Chas. Skortman, Christ Ersland, A. A. Lande and T. O. Heggem. Burial was made in the Bethlehem cemetery.
Rasmus Viland was born Janaury 1, 1855, at Olen, Fjeldberg Parish, Norway. He came with his parents to America in 1866. They lived for two years in Fillmore county when they moved to Palestine township. He was confirmed at the Fjeldberg church in 1869. He was married to Ellen Frovick February 10, 1900. Six children were born to this union, one died in infancy. The Vilands lived at Slater until 1914 where he conducted a hardware store. They moved to Wisconsin and lived there a short time moving to Haywood, Minn. where they were now living. Mr. Viland's death from heart trouble came as a shock to his friends. he had not been well for some time but had not been confined to the home. At the time of his death he was 75 years and four months old.
He is survived by his wife and five children, Mrs. Elmer Dobbe, Miss Doris and Milo Viland of Haywood, Minn., Paul of Mason City and Mrs. Anfin Richardson of near Huxley. Also one brother, W. P. Viland of Slater and a sister, Mrs. Anna Madskar of Denver, Colo.
