THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, May 4, 1933, page 1, column 5. "MRS. GEORGE W. TOMLINSON. - Rebecca Backous was born in Burton Salmon, Yorkshire, England, February 22, 1872, and departed this life at her home in Peoria, Iowa, April 27, 1933, at the age of 61 years, two months and five days. She came with her parents to America when a child of thirteen years and settled in the Peoria community, which has been her home for the past 48 years. She was united in marriage to Geo. W. Tomlinson December 28, 1892, at Marion, Iowa. To this union were born two daughters, Mrs. Mae Kolbus and Mrs. Lois Aldrich, who with the husband survive her. She also leaves two granddaughters, Betty Irene Aldrich and Lela Mae Kolbus; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Lunn, who resides in England; Mrs. Charlotte Cheville, of Rhodes and Mrs. Levenia Duesbury, of Collins; five brothers, William, of Ketonka, So. Dak.; John, of Cambridge; George, of Maxwell; Walter, of Omak, Wash., and Arthur, of Ames; a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends, all of whom will greatly miss her. She was converted at an early age and united with the Church of Christ, later transferring her membership to the M. P. church at Peoria, where she has always attended and took an active interest in the various departments of the church, being deeply concerned for its welfare, her place at church and Sunday school rarely being vacant when health permitted. She was a faithful, loving and devoted wife and mother, a sympathetic neighbor and a true friend, who will be greatly missed in this community, where she was always ready to do her duty and more. The mantle of her years was a symbol of Christian character of love and service and when she laid it down it was to obey the summons of her Lord, who said, "Well done, good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of thy Lord." Funeral services were held from the Methodist Protestant church at Peoria Sunday afternoon in charge of Dr. C. J. Nutt, of Des Moines, who was assisted by Rev. E. K. Parrott, of Rhodes. The music was furnished by a quartet composed of Mrs. Ray Gooden, Mrs. Basil Caple, Orville Woodman and Harry Fackler, with Mrs. John C. Joor at the piano. Mrs. Ray Gooden sang as a solo, "There's no Disappointment in Heaven." The pall bearers were nephews of Mrs. Tomlinson and included Messrs. Howard Tomlinson, Roy Cook, Lonnie Tomlinson, George Backous, William Duesbury and Fred Cheville. The body was laid to rest in the Peoria cemetery."
