Charles Hankey Died at Zearing; Paralysis Victim
Special to the Journal.
Zearing, March 10--Charles E. Hankey, 76, for over half a century resident of the Zearing and Colo neighborhoods, died at his farm home north of here Friday evening at 6:30 from the effects of a stroke of paralysis a short time ago. The first stroke of paralysis had been suffered February 14, since which time he had been under the constant care of a nurse.Funeral arrangements are yet undetermined, pending word from some of the relatives at a distance.
Mr. Hankey was born at Frederickburg, Maryland, January 4, 1858. When a lad of four years the family came out to Illinois and there he grew to manhood, coming on out to Iowa when nineteen years of age. In 1881 he located in the Colo neighborhood and it was there that he united in marriage to Anna Martin in 1887.
The next year they moved onto a farm south of Zearing where they lived for five years and then onto the farm north of Zearing, which had since been their home.
He leaves besides his wife, a sister, Mrs. Jane Wehmeyer of Broksvill, Illinois and a brother Lewis Hankey of Osgood, Iowa. Two sisters in Illinois have preceded him in death.
