Obituary.

Died at his house in Milford township, Story county, Iowa, Monday, March 6, 1899, Fritz Randau, aged 68 years, 6 months and 19 days.

The deceased was born at Alfeld, Provinz Hanover, Germany, August 15, 1830; came to America in 1854; was at the outbreak of the War of the Rebellion a clerk in St. Louis, where he enlisted October 26, 1861, in Company C, 1st Missouri Light Artillery; was discharged as a sergeant at Chattanooga, November 3, 1864; came to Story county after the was and lived on his farm in Milford township most of the time for thirty years; returned to the old county in 1872 and was there married January 9, 1873, to Miss Mathilda Lohmann with whom he returned home in March of the same year and who died October, 1888; rented his farm for a few years after his wife's death and made his home principally at the Soldier's Home in Marshalltown; was again married August 16, 1891, to Bertha M. Eymann at Council Bluffs, and there after lived on his farm until his death. In December 1896 he was bitten on the leg by a vicious hog and the effects of this and other troubles from that time confined him to his bed. He leaves his wife, four sons aged 20, 15, 5 and a daughter aged 12, also one sister Mrs. Frederick Reischauer of Story City and numerous other relatives. He was a man of unassuming but most estimable character, a faithful soldier for his adopted country, a good citizen and a consistent member of the Lutheran church from his boyhood up. His funeral will be conducted this afternoon by Rev. Elliott of Boone and the interment will be at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
