Gilbert Farmer Died Very Suddenly
Gilbert, Nov. 4--E. T. Shepard, 73, dropped dead from apoplexy, while attending to the chores at his farm two miles north of Gilbert late Wednesday, just one week from the the day his wife died. Funeral services were held at the Congregational church in Gilbert Friday afternoon, after which interment was in the Gilbert cemetery. He leaves three sons and one daughter.
Mr. Shepard was born at Red Wing, Minnesota, December 19, 1854. He came to Ames with his parents about 60 years ago. After attending Iowa State college he taught school for a number of years. He was united in marriage to Miss Emily Sargeant on November 2, 1881, just 46 years before his death. Mrs. Shepard died a week ago. Shortly after their marriage they moved upon a farm northwest of Gilbert and there they raised their family and prospered. He leaves three sons, Ernest, George and Roy, and one daughter, Mrs. Charles Fincham. There are also eight grand children.
Mr. Shepard was a man well thought of in the community in which he had spent nearly half a century and had held many positions of public trust.
Rev. Hummell had charge of the services. There was a prayer at the Adams funeral home in Ames, before the body was taken to Gilbert for the funeral.
