Funeral Rites for Mrs. Christianson
SLATER--Final rites for Mrs. George Christianson were held Friday afternoon at the home at 1:30 and in the Bethlehem Lutheran church at 2 o'clock.
Rev. Olaf Holen of Roland and Rev. Peder Buland of Cambridge were in charge of the services. Robert Weeks sang two selections "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" and "Den Store Hvide Flok." Mrs. Arnold Sydness of Ames sang "A Perfect Day." Mrs. Harold Croft was accompanist.
The many beautiful floral tributes were arranged by Mrs. Oliver Newman and Mrs. Ray Ryen. There were also many memorial gifts to worthy causes.
Pallbearers were Casper Thompson, Clarence Ryg, Ray Halverson, John Christianson, Jonas Christianson and Jeffery Richardson. Burial was in the Slater Municipal cemetery.
Nellie Helen Ryan Christianson was born January 12, 1882, near Lisbon, Ill., and died suddenly July 30, 1951 at the home of a son near Ames, at the age of 69 years, 6 months and 13 days. She moved to the Slater community with her parents, Nels and Carrie Ryen at the age of 10 years and has lived in this community ever since.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On February 15, 1911 she was united in marriage to George Christianson and to this union was born seven children, of whom six survive: Noble of Ames, Mrs. Orlin (Arlene) Lein of Kelley, Mrs. Robert (Hazel) Strother of Ames, Mrs. Perry (Gladys) Dickerson of Kelley, Stanley of Polk City and Marvin of Ames. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Lewis Michaelson of Slater and a large number of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son in infancy, one grandchild, five sister and four brothers.
Helen Christianson was a member of the Lincoln church and later joined the Bethlehem church of which she has been active in all church activities. She was a devoted Christian wife and mother and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
