Funeral Services Held For George Christianson
Funeral services for George Christianson were held Wednesday afternoon at the Riis Funeral Home in Slater at 1:30 p.m. and 2 o'clock at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Rev. Leo Bjorlie in charge.
The many beautiful floral tributes were arranged by Mrs. Raymond Ryen and Mrs. Oliver Newman. There were also gifts to worthy causes in his memory. LaVerne Richardson soloist, sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "The Old Rugged Cross." He was accompanied by Mrs. Robert Newman, organist.
Casket bearers were Clarence Ryg, Jonas Christianson, Roy Holverson, Otis Anderson, Tommy Ryen and Noble Haag.
Interment was in the Slater Cemetery.
Obituary
George Alfred Christianson, son of Christian and Augusta Christianson, was born Nov. 1, 1882 and died at the Haven of Rest Nursing Home in Ames Oct. 22, 1955 at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 22 days. He was born and raised in the Slater Community.
In infancy he was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On Feb. 15, 1911 he was united in marriage to Nellie Helen Ryen and to this union were born seven children six of whom survive, Noble of Ames, Mrs. Orlin (Arlene) Lein of Kelley, Mrs. Robert (Hazel) Strother of Ames, Mrs. Perry (Gladys) Dickerson of Madrid, Stanley of Polk City, and Marvin of Ames. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Mabel Haag of Des Moines; one brother, Sanford of Seattle, Washington and one half sister, Mrs. Myrtle Helleckson of Starbuck, Minnesota and a large number of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son who died in infancy, one grandchild, two sisters and three brothers.
Mr. Christianson was a member of the Lincoln Church and later joined the Bethlehem Church of which he was a member at the time of his death.
