Mrs. Geo. Severson Rites Held Thursday

Funeral services for Mrs. George Severson were held Thursday afternoon, Aug. 21 at 1:30 at the home and at two o'clock at the Bethlehem Lutheran church with the Rev. P. E. Onstad officiating.

At the home the Rev. Onstad read scripture from John 14, offered prayer and sang "I Know Of a Sleep in Jesus Name." At the church the audience sang "Rock of Ages."

Pastor Onstad chose his text from John 11: "The Master is Here and is Calling for you." The Rev. E. R. Rorem of Story City, former Slater pastor also spoke.

Two solos, "In Heaven Above," and "The Lord's Prayer" were sung by George Person. Robert Weeks also sang a solo "Behold a Host."

The beautiful floral offerings were cared for by Mrs. Oliver Newman, Mrs. Glenn Fausch and Mrs. John Gunderson. There were many gifts to missions and other worthy causes in memory of Mrs. Severson.

Casket bearers were Arnold Larson, Don Ward, H. J. McHone Jr., Byron Anderson, Norman Severson and Larry Sams, all nephews of the deceased.

Interment was in the Bethlehem cemetery.

Obituary

Minnie C. Severson was born July 16, 1889, near Cambridge. She died unexpectedly at her home Aug. 17, at 8:15 p.m. at the age of 63 years as a result of a heart attack. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jonas T. Larson and grew up in the vicinity of Cambridge. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Mrs. Severson attended Slater high school and Drake university in Des Moines.

She was united in marriage to Geo. J. Severson Nov. 26, 1909. After a brief residence in Blairsburg, Iowa, they moved to Slater in 1911 where she lived until her death.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Dr. Geo. J. Severson and five sons Gerrish of Lincoln, Nebr., Eugene of Des Moines, and Stanley, Wayne and Jimmie all of Slater. She also leaves six grandchildren. Additional survivors include six sisters, Milla Tollefson of Nevada, Anna Larson of Huxley, Hilda Ekrum of Minneapolis, Sylvia Anderson and Cora Larson of Cambridge and Ella Engren of Slater, four brothers, Ed Larson of Great Falls, Mont., Albert Larson of Cambridge, Tennis Larson of Slater and Joe Larson of Lake City. Two brothers, Lew Larson and Fred Larson preceded her in death.

During recent years Mrs. Severson suffered a series of illnesses which were borne with courage and patience. Her character was typified by understanding, charity and self sacrifice. Blessed be her memory.

Among those from a distance attending the funeral services were Mrs. Bryon Terrell and son Byron, Jr., of Whittier, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Johnson and Mrs. George Nelson of Litchfield, Minn., George Person of Mendota, Ill., Mary Person of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Stenberg and Mr. and Mrs. George Bravik of Thompson, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Stenberg of Elmore, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Casper Stenberg of Jewell, Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Mackaman and Dr. and Mrs. Ed Drew of Des Moines.
