LUCY KALLMAN HUHN
Funeral services for the late Mrs. Lucy Huhn were held from the Nevada Christian Church at 2:30 Monday afternoon following a brief prayer service in the Ryan Funeral Home with Rev. Hugh Guy officiating at both services.
Mrs. Lyle McConnell and Mrs. Robert Ogden sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Have Thine Own Way, Lord". Mrs. Marlie Lobaugh was at the piano.
The pallbearers were I. W. Tudor, Marlie Lobaugh, Frank Kinsman, Lee Cook, Charles Knight and A. H. Boten.
Burial was in the Nevada Cemetery by the side of her husband who passed away July 11, 1921.
Rev. Guy read the following brief life story as part of the last rites.
Mrs. Lucy Huhn, daughter of John and Hannah Johnson Kallman, was born at Rantoul, Ill., April 24, 1872, and died at the Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, Iowa at 8:00 p.m. last Friday evening, May 30, 1947, after a lingering illnes of five weeks. Mrs. Huhn was 75 years, 1 month and 6 days old.
Mrs. Huhn was married in Rantoul, Illinois to Daniel B. Huhn on February 15, 1893, and came to Story County, Iowa with her husband that spring. So she has lived in this community 54 years.
To this union nine children were born. Five sons and three daughters survive her. They are: Oral of Ogden, Utah; Loren of Nevada; Lyle K. of Columbus, Ohio; Virgil of Adel, Iowa; and Gaylon of Nevada. The daughters are: Miss Lola Huhn, RN of Des Moines; Mrs. Leonta Shaffer of Nevada, and Mrs. Fern Williams of Granada, Minnesota. One daughter, Ida Belle, died in infancy. Mr. Huhn also preceded her death, passing away July 11, 1921. Two sisters, Hannah and Ida preceded her in death. The husband of the youngest sister is here. Besides her children, one brother, Charles J. Kallman, of Rantoul, Ill, eleven grandchildren and many other relatives and a great host of friends survive Mrs. Huhn.
Mrs. Lucy Huhn was a good, kind mother having reared, on the farm, a fine family in those days without the farm conveniences that the modern farmer possesses. She did her full part, as a mother, in making a contribution to this nation.
Mr. and Mrs. Huhn united with the Christian Church here in Nevada in the year of 1902. They were both devoted to the cause of Christ until death. However, in recent years, because of failing health Sister Huhn was not able to attend church services, yet her heart was in the work.
The pastor, who had enjoyed several fine visits with the deceased, was impressed with her potted plants that she loved so much.
Among those from out of town attending the service besides the children were: G. A. Keal, Rantoul, Illinois and Mrs. Joe Smay of Coggan, Iowa. (The Nevada Evening Journal--Nevada, Iowa)
