THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, March 21, 1901, page 8, column 3. "Goose Lake - Mr. Aug. Skortman died at his home in the Lake last Wednesday morning after a short illness of lung fever. Mr. Skortman was an old citizen, respected by all who knew him. He leaves a wife and a number of grown children to mourn the loss of husband and father. His mother died at the same place about three weeks ago."
