THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, March 13, 1924, page 1, column 5. "MRS. ORSON SHAFER - Mrs. Orson Shafer died at her home here Tuesday at 11:30 a. m. following a caesarean** operation. Seldom has it been our duty to record a death which has caused so general a feeling of sadness. A dark gloom spread over the community when it was announced that Eva Ray, __ ___ __ away. Deceased was twenty-nine years of age and was married about a year and a half ago to Orson Shafer, who, with her father, J. A. Ray, survives her. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the M. E. church with sermon by Rev. H. N. Smith, followed by the ritualistic ceremony by the Rebekah lodge, of which Mrs. Shafer was a member. Interment will be made in the Iowa Center cemetery where the mother and baby son will be laid to rest by the side of her mother who passed away about two years ago." **Editorial note - spelling is used from original newspaper article.
