THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, August 15, 1918, page 1. "OBITUARY - Sarah Ann Batchelder was born in Vermont, January 20, 1825. She was married to Cyrus Westcott October 10, 1844, their home being in Elizabeth, New York, from which place her husband enlisted in the Civil war, and after three years of service gave his life for the freedom of his country. To them were born ten children; four of whom died while young. Theodore, the oldest son, enlisted in the Civil war and died in Virginia; Oliver lives in Oregon; Stephen Manley died at his home in Kansas a number of years ago. Charles Jasper and Wesley W., both of Collins, and Frank B., of Dunbar, Neb., survive her and are present. About five years after her husband's death she was united again to Ira Sargent and lived in Maxwell, for a number of years, where they were well know. Grandma (as she was known to so many) has been in poor health for several months. She made her home in Collins with her two sons, dying at the home of Wesley Westcott Tuesday, August 6, 1918, at 11 p. m., at the ripe age of ninety-three years, six months and sixteen days. She was converted and united with the Presbyterian church in her youth and has been a consistent Christian through life. The service was held in the Church of Christ of Collins, and was in charge of Rev. S. C. Wadding, pastor of the Presbyterian church of Maxwell, where the deceased held her membership. Rev. Wadding was assisted in the services by Rev. C. R. Moore, pastor of the Church of Christ where the services were held. The text, Job 5:26, "Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age like a shock of corn cometh in its season." The subject was: "A Full Life." Not full of years but full of life, of Christ-life. A man may have a mind full of thought, hands full of deeds, treasury full of possessions, yet Luke says "Man's life consisteth not in the abundance of things a man possesses, but in the possession of Christ. This is the record that God hath given us; eternal life, this life is in His Son; he that hath the Son hath the life, therefore, take the world but give me Jesus." A great multitude live for self, are full of self and empty of Christ. Let us remember that if we do not live for others we do not live at all but merely exist. Grandma was full of kindness, full of love, full of Christ, full of years. She came to her grave in a full age like a shock of corn cometh in its season. The body was laid to rest in the Peoria cemetery to await the resurrection from the dead. S. C. W." **Editorial note - spelling, punctuation and grammar are found in the original newspaper article.
