THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, December 13, 1900, page 1, column 3. "OBITUARY. - Wm. B. Moore, the subject of this sketch was born at Clearmont, Ohio, May 14, 1846 at which place he spent his boyhood life. In 1863 he moved with his parents to Story Co., where he lived for some years. In 1871 he homesteaded the farm on which he died one mile north of town. In 1879 he was married to Mrs. Viola Heath who survives him as well as two adopted daughters Mabel and Josie Finch. His father eighty-five years old survives him and lives in Story County. Also three brothers and four sisters, J. Q. at Iowa Center; O. P and L. R. at Ayershire; Mesdames S. E. Cooper, Theodore Maxwell and Miss Phoebe Moore at Maxwell, and Mrs. H. K. Squires at Rolfe, Iowa. The cause of his death was cancer from which he suffered for a year, the last few months intensely. His last few hours were agonizing in the extreme yet he bore all patiently. He was a man of good qualities and universally respected as a friend and neighbor. He was among the pioneers and shared with them the hardships and sacrifices in developing the northwestern country. He was of a quiet disposition retiring and yet social, genial companion. Mr. Moore was a member of the United Presbyterian church at the time of his death and fell to sleep in Jesus on the morning of the 20th, of November shortly after midnight. To the friends at his bedside he expressed himself as ready to go. To his pastor a short time before he expressed the same sentiment. He was buried from the United Presbyterian church on Thursday afternoon and his remains laid to rest in Pleasant View Cemetery northwest of town. So he shall moulder** to dust in the soil he loved so well and which he tilled with the sweat of his honest brow. In his suffering and sickness he has had the sympathy and prayers of his friends; may the same sympathy and help fall as a mantle on his wife and adopted children. The family will certainly have the prayers and help of every earnest christian in the community. In behalf of the widow and family we express their sincere thanks to all the friends who have so kindly assisted them in their time of need and materially aided them in this time of deepest sorrow. - Boyden Reporter." **Editorial note - spelling was used from the original newspaper article.
