THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, January 23, 1896, Page 4, column 4. "Obituary. - Sanford, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Moore, of 924 North High street, St. Louis, and the great grandson of Grandmother Hilton of Maxwell, Iowa, departed this life January 4th, aged 16 years 6 months. He was stricken with chronic hemorrhage of the nose, bleeding without ceasing, more or less, for over three weeks, and succumbed to complete exhaustion. The most prominent physicians in St. Louis were summoned to give him relief, but their efforts were in vain; medical science was conquered, being powerless and of no effect. He was buried Monday, the 6 inst. The funeral services were held in the Messiah Mission, 9th and Washington streets, at 2 o'clock p. m. As the remains entered the portal of the chapel, borne by six stalwart companions, the Sunday school class of which he was a member joined in singing "Nearer my God to Thee." The sermon was preached by Dr. John Snyder, of the church of the Messiah. His remarks were of the most exalting nature, pertaining to the deceased. The text was taken from Revelation 14 - 13, "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith** the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them." Numerous friends and relatives followed to the cemetery, and the last sad rites at the grave were rendered by the pastor of the Trinity M. E. church. Where we left him sleeping, sleeping; awaiting the Judgment morning, under a veritable mountain of flowers and floral designs, the last tribute of love and respect paid to our deceased friend. We trust he is resting. "Save in the arms of Jesus, Safe on his gentle breast, There by his love o'er shaded Sweetly his soul shall rest."" **Editorial note - spelling used is from the original newspaper article.
