ROY GRIFFITH
Roy S. Griffith, 74, 1424 Kellogg, Ames, died at his home Thursday morning.
Born Feb. 5, 1898 at McCallsburg, he spent most of his life in Ames.
He was employed at the Ames Green and Coal Co. for 24 years and was owner and operator of Griffith's Fuel Co. from 1948 until 1960 when he retired.
A member of the First United Methodist Church, Ames, he was also a past master of Arcadia Lodge 249, AF and AM. Past Grand Officer of the Grand Lodge of Iowa, a member of the Ames York Rite Bodies and past commander of Ascension Commandery 69 K T, Za Ga Zig Shrine, Past Patron of Laura Chapter 115 OES, a volunteer for Story County Chapter of American Red Cross and served on the city council for two terms.
Survivors include his wife Alice, two sons, Edgar of Cincinnati, Ohio and Ronald R. of Lake Zurich, Ill., five grandchildren and a brother Hugh of Ames.
His parents and a sister preceded him.
Rev. William A. Overhulser of the First United Methodist Church will officiate at the services at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Adams Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.
The body will lie in state at Adams Funeral Home, Ames, from Friday afternoon until time of the services.
Memorials may be left at the Union Story Bank in Ames.
