THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, November 1, 1900, page 1, column 2. "OBITUARY. - William Vance Kyle was born in the county of Londonderry, North Ireland, on January 11, 1824, of Scotch parentage. He came to America in 1845, and settled in Rock county, Wisconsin; was engaged in farming there until 1850. He located at Weston, Md., a short time and then went to California and worked in the mines for two and a half years and then returned to his old home in Wisconsin. On January 13, 1853, he married Miss Jeannette McAurthur. In 1864, they moved to Story county, Iowa, and settled on the place that has been their home ever since - then a raw prairie, now a beautiful farm home. He was an honored member of Arcade Lodge, No. 249, A. F. and A. M., Ames, Iowa. The funeral service was held at the house, conducted by Rev. H. P. Douglass, who preached a very comforting sermon from St. Luke 12:33-43. The interment was in the beautiful cemetery of Nevada. Upon the arrival of the funeral cortege, the Masons took charge, and, with their impressive services they performed the last filial act they could for a worthy brother. J. P. Galloway and daughter, of Whitewater, Wisconsin; David Kyle, of Lina Center, Wisconsin; Thomas Kyle, of Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin; and Mr. and Mrs. Ellis, of Chicago, were in attendance at the funeral."
