THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, July 17, 1902, page 1, column 3. "DIED. - Charles Hurst was born in Jasper county, near Colfax, August 22, 1880, and died at his home southeast of Maxwell, July 14, 1902, age twenty-one years, ten months and twenty-two days. He was married to Miss Adella Gifford February 9, 1902. Mr. Hurst was an exemplary young man and was always willing to do whatever he could for others, but he was taken away in the very bloom of young manhood and leaves a young wife to mourn his loss. Joy and happiness are sometimes turned to sorrow, as it was in this case. Deceased had been a sufferer for about 3 months, having had the measles and never thoroughly recovering from them. Although he has gone he will not soon be forgotten as he had many friends and was a great favorite in the community in which he lived. The funeral was held at the Buena Vista church Wednesday at 10 a. m., being in charge of Rev. F. J. Beetly and the remains were interred in the Buena Vista cemetery. The sorrowing friends** and bereaved wife have the sympathy of a host of friends." **Editorial note - perhaps is should have said "family"; cemetery records indicate Charles was buried in the Farrar Cemetery, Washington Township, Polk County, Iowa.
