THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, February 8, 1900, page 4. "The news of the death of Grandma Hilton, which occurred Monday evening about eight o'clock, has caused universal sorrow among a large circle of friends, and the sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved relatives. Grandma has been in feeble health for some time, and having reached the advanced age of ninety-three, it was impossible for the frail body to withstand the ravages of a severe cold, and she has been rapidly sinking for the past week. The funeral services were held to-day (Wednesday) at the C. P. church, conducted by Rev. S. S. Scull, and interment will be at the Peoria cemetery. Obituary will appear next week."

THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, February 15, 1900, page 5, column 4. "OBITUARY. Hannah J. Kilgore was born in Belmont Co., Ohio, Sept. 16, 1818, and died in Maxwell, Iowa, Feb. 5, 1900, and was 81 years, 4 months and 19 days old. She was married to John Hilton in February, 1837, and to this union nine children were born, six sons and three daughters. The husband and seven children have preceded her; the other two sons, Jesse, of agency, and James, of Maxwell, are left to mourn the loss of a mother. She joined the Presbyterian church when quite young. In 1852 she, her husband and family moved to Iowa, and not finding a church of her choice near, she united with the M. P. church of which she remained a member until her death. The funeral services were held in the C. P. Church last Wednesday, conducted by Rev. C. L. Heskett assisted by his brother, Rev. Heskett, of Gilbert Station. - Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Hilton desire to express their sincere thanks to neighbors and friends for the kindness shown during the sickness and death of their beloved mother."
