THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, August 1, 1940, page 1, column 5. "DR. C. F. HATCHER PASSED AWAY FRIDAY. - Dr. C. F. Hatcher, of Ames, passed away at the Mary Greeley Hospital, in Ames, after a long illness. Had he lived until Aug. 7, he would have been 83 years of age. Dr. Hatcher, who was a practicing physician in Maxwell for many years, was well known in Story county, had made his home and continued his practice in Ames for the past fifteen years. He was a son of Charles Ward and Lucinda Hatcher and was born near Prairie City, in Jasper county. He spent his boyhood days on a farm and graduated form the Iowa Medical College in 1885 and later took post graduate work from a Chicago Medical College. Having started into practice in Mingo, where he remained only a short time. In 1883 he was united in marriage to Miss Laura Harvison, who passed away in 126**. In 1927 he was married to Mrs. Minnie Sowers, of Ames, who survives. He also is survived by one aged sister, living in Mitchell, So. Dak., and a host of friends. He was a lifelong Mason and a member of the Christian Church. Funeral services were held at the Adams Funeral Chapel, in Ames, with the Rev. C. E. Lookingbill, of Nevada, in charge. Masonic services were also held. Interment was at Runnells by the side of his first wife." **Editorial note - this was the date in the original newspaper article. Should read 1926.
