THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, September 11, 1902, page 1, column 2. "…Truly in the midst of life we are in death. Tomorrow is the funeral of Arthur Hand, of Mingo, who came to his death by a run away team. He is an old settler of the fifties… About all the pioneers of 1855 and 1856 are gone. In 1855 our cemetery contained but one, Zeno Pearson, and now it is almost numberless. The rich and poor sleep alike undisturbed and no family hardly but who have a dear spot here and there in the Peoria City cemetery…"

THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, September 11, 1902, page 5, column 2. "Arthur Hand, of Mingo, an old settler of that section of the country, died last Saturday. Mr. Hand is well known to many of our readers and they will regret very much to learn of his death. Mr. Hand was out in the field on Friday getting corn and his team ran away, he being run over by the wagon, however, it was not thought that he was that badly hurt and walked home but soon grew worse and died the next day."
