FORMER AMES COUPLE KILLED

MR. AND MRS. RALPH KRATOSKA MET TRAGIC DEATH SUNDAY

Zearing, Aug. 6--The double funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Kratoska, who met death in an auto crash which occured Sunday near Racine, Wisconsin, where they had been living the past year.

Mrs. Kratoska before her marriage was Lois, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mert [should be Bert or James B.] Robinson, then of near Zearing, while Mr. Kratoska was for some time manager of the Penney stores at Ames.

According to word reaching here, Mrs. Kratoska, 28, was killed when a car she was driving collided with an auto driven by Martin Sockrison, Chicago man.

Ralph Kratoska, the husband, was rushed to a hospital but died a few hours later.

Four other occupants of the care were injured but there is hope of their recovery.

The Kratoska party was returning to Racine from a fishing trip.

The bodies of Mr. and Mrs. Kratoska arrived in Ames early today. Funeral services will be held from the Congregational church at 2:30 p. m. Wednesday, with the Rev. H. K. Hawley, former pastor, returning to conduct the services. Burial will be in the Ames cemetery.

Mr. Kratoska was born in Belle Plaine April 4, 1906. He was graduated from the Belle Plaine high school and moved to Ames in 1924. He attended Iowa State college for one year, after which he joined the J. C. Penney company store there when it opened.

He was employed with that store for about 10 years, serving as assistant manager for the last six. In June, 1934, he and Mrs. Kratoska moved to Racine, Wis., where he was employed as assistant manager.

After attending Zearing high school for two years, Mrs. Kratoska, then Lois Robinson, moved with her parents to Ames in 1923. She was graduated from Ames high school in 1925. While in school she was active in declamatory and won first in the dramatic division in 1924 and 1925.

Following graduation she was employed for a year in the zoology department at Iowa State college, going from there to the position of secretary in the landscape architecture department.

As secretary here, she had an important part in organizing the office work for the Iowa Planning board. She was active in this work until June, 1934, when the Kratoska's moved to Racine.

The couple was married about five years ago.

Surviving Mrs. Kratoska are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robinson of near Waterloo.

Surviving Mr. Kratoska are his mother, Mrs. Agnes Kratoska, 519 Main stret, and one sister, Lois. An aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kratoska, 224 East Seventh street, and three cousins, Harold, Katherine and Floyd also survive.
