Rites Held For Amos Nervig
Funeral services for Amos Nervig were held Tuesday afternoon at the Riis Funeral home at 1:30 and 2:00 at the Bethlehem Lutheran church here. The Rev. P. E. Onstad officiated.
At the funeral home Pastor Onstad sang "I Know of a Sleep in Jesus Name" accompanied by Mrs. Harold Croft at the piano. A short prayer service followed. At the church with Mrs. Croft at the organ, Lester Moore sang "Sometime We'll Understand," and "Beyond the Sunset." The Rev. Onstad sang "Behold the Host." Pastor Onstad took his text from Genesis 25:8.
The beautiful floral offerings were care for by Mrs. Ed Twit and Mrs. Clarence Berhow. Casket bearers were grandchildren of Mr. Nervig, John, Robert and Donald Nervig, Luverne Rullestad, Dean Nutt and Marvin Carlson. Interment was in the Bethlehem cemetery.
Obituary
Amos O. Nervig, son of Owen and Gjore Nervig was born in Wisconsin on April 12, 1868. At the age of two years he moved to Iowa with his parents and located in Polk county where he spent most of his life. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith of which he has been a member his entire life.
Mr. Nervig was united in marriage to Carrie Tesdall on Dec. 28, 1898. To this union six children were born. His wife preceded him in death on Oct. 29, 1944 after which he made his home with his son James until recently. Since then he has been cared for by some of the other children.
Two weeks ago his health failed more rapidly and he was taken to a nursing home where he passed away on Friday evening, Oct. 30 at the age of 85 years, six months and 18 days.
He is survived by four sons and two daughters; James of Polk City and LeRoy, Elnora Applegate, Ankeny and Agnes Rullestad of Cambridge. Additional survivors include 17 grandchildren and six great grand children and six great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
