MRS. CECELIA RORVIG
ROLAND: Funeral services for Mrs. Cecelia Rorvig, 84, who died following a three week illness at the Story City Hospital, July 30, were held Saturday, Aug. 3 at the Erickson Funeral Home at 1:30 p. m. and at the Bergen Lutheran church at 2 p. m. with Rev. A. E. Nelson officiating.
Interment as in the Roland cemetery.
At the funeral home, June Hovick sang "Near to the Heart of God" accompanied by Janet Hovick. The Bergen Ladies Triple Trio furnished the music at the church singing "If I Gained the World" and "Softly and Tenderly." Mrs. Reuben Erickson served as organist.
The pallbearers were S. J. Nelson, Andrew Osheim, Sam Rorvig, John Braathum, John Nelso and C. P. Thompson.
Life Sketch
Mrs. Cecelia Aarthun Rorvig was born April 5, 1871 to John and Gurie Aarthun at Skaanevik, Norway. She came to America in 1895 and lived in Story City.
Later she worked in Des Moines. She was married to Sampson S. Rorvig Feb. 1, 1900. They lived on the Rorvig homestead 2 1/4 miles east of Roland until March 7, 1913, when they moved to Roland.
A faithful member of her church, she participated in the activities of Ladies Aid. She was preceded in death by their infant sons, who died at birth; a son, Sam, aged 23 who died in 1933 and her husband, who died in 1934. A niece, Mildred Ersland, reared in the Rorvig home, died in 1939. Two sisters and a brother also preceded her in death.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. S. B. Kildstofte of Roland, three grandchildren and one great grandson, a nephew, Arthur Ersland of San Diego, Calif., who was also raised in the Rorvig home, and a brother and sister living in Norway.
