Funeral Service Held For Seymour Robert Hix

ZEARING Funeral services for Seymour Robert Hix who died Jan. 11, 1957 was held on Monday, Jan. 14 from the Assembly of God church, Nevada. Rev. Leonard Franz was in charge of the service. Interment was in the Zearing cemetery.

Mrs. Jack Muckey was at the piano. Flowers were cared for by Mable Harrison and Ethel Crawford.

Virgil Chance, Gilbert Henry, Hero Wicks, Iver Cook, Merrill Flynn and Leon Deal were casket bearers.

Brouhard Funeral Home of Zearing and Nevada were in charge of the arrangements.

Obituary

Seymour Robert Hix known affectionately to his many friends and loved ones as "S. R.", was born in Zearing, Iowa, on Dec. 18, 1891. He was the son of A. D. and Cora Hix, early settlers of Story county. He attended Drake Law School and later was associated with his father in operating a mercantile store in Zearing.

On Sept. 4, 1912, he was united in marriage of Jennie B. Stevens of Collins. Four children blessed this marriage--Albert D. Hix of Seattle, Wash., Seymour Dale Hix of Colorado Springs, Colo, Joy Boyce of Ames, Iowa and Anetta Elaine, deceased.

For several years he was associated with the State Savings Bank in Zearing, Iowa. In 1926 he, with his family, moved to LeMars, Iowa where he had accepted the position of treasurer and business manager of Westmar College. There he enjoyed the respect and admiration of the students, many of whom he assisted spiritually and materially -- the long-long friendships which developed with these young people gave him pleasure and satisfaction. Not a month went by without his hearing from some student to whom he had given advice and encouragement.

In 1933 he was appointed Examiner in the State Auditor's office, working in that capacity until her retirement in 1948. though formally retired, he lad an active full life. He and his devoted wife, Jennie, followed a life-long ambition--moving to their farm home near Fernald where they made a home for his aged mother. His friends and neighbors remember him as a man who was always busy, but never too busy to help others with their problems. His loving wife and children have only fond memories of his unselfish devotion.

He is survived by his wife two sons, daughter, six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
