Joseph Severson Rites Held In Slater Bethlehem Church
Last rites for Joseph Severson were held Monday, May 8 at the Bethlehem Church in Slater at 2 p. m. Rev. Leo Bjorli was in charge of the services.
Robert Weeks, soloist, sang "Rock of Ages" and "Softly and Tenderly Jesus Is Calling" accompanied by Mrs. Oliver Newman.
Casket bearers were Harold Ersland, Oscar Severson, J. C. Ersland, Paul Friest, Lewis Sheldahl and Irwin Stenbuerg. Burial was in the Bethelhem Cemetery.
Life Sketch
Joseph Severson, oldest son of John and Nicolina Stenberg-Severson, was born near Cambridge Jan. 2, 1877. He was baptized and confirmed in the Palestine Lutheran Church.
He had lived in Iowa, Minnesota and Canada but resided near Story City in later years. He died in the Sunset Home in Story City May 3.
Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Chester Person of Kelley and six brothers, Henry and Osmond of Climax, Saskatchewan, Can., George of Slater, Severt of Ames, Albert of Modesto, Calif. and Milfred of Phoenix, Ariz.
He was prededed in death by his parents and one brother, Levi, of Madera, Calif.
