Burial of Mrs. Dowling

The burial of Mrs. John Dowling occurs this afternoon at the Nevada Cemetery, her remains having arrived at 2:30 from Scranton. Rev. Shirck conducted brief service at the grave, and few old friends were present. Mr. and Mrs. Dowling were residents of Nevada in the long ago. He was a clothing merchant, and she worked beside him in business, when business clustered on the south side; and they moved when business did over the north side. They were highly respected and Mrs. Dowling was especially beloved. Leaving Nevada in the early seventies they lived in Mt. Ayr for a while, then settled in Scranton, and there Mr. Dowling's life closed early a decade ago, and Mrs. Dowling has since been an invalid. The wealth they had gathered slipped away and public bounty has cared for the widow's last months and fer her burial. But this service seems to be a grateful expression from the town which is said to have benefited greatly from Mrs. Dowling's kindness of heart and generosity. Mr. and Mrs. Dowling had no children and their remains rest side by side amonth people who cherich their memory.
