Funeral Services Held Thursday for Mrs. Christ Ersland

Slater, May 1--Funeral services for Mrs. Christ Ersland were held Thursday afternoon. A brief prayer service was held at 1:30 o'clock at the Riis Funeral home, followed by services at 2 o'clock at the Bethlehem Lutheran church. Both services were in charge of Rev. P. E. Onstad. The beautiful floral offerings were arranged by Mrs. R. C. Lande and Mrs. Ed Twit. Rev. Onstad sang a Norwegian solo, "Den Store Hvide Flok." Nilus Ihle sang "Rock of Ages." A duet, "One Sweetly Solemn Thought," was sung by Mrs. M. S. Heggen and Mrs A. L. Peterson. The pallbearers were George M. Severtson of Nevada; Kermit Askland of Austin, Minn.; J. C. Ersland of Ames; Luther Severtson, Harold Ersland and Nels Ersland. Gifts of money to the missions were given by relatives and friends in memory of Mrs. Ersland. Burial was made in the Bethlehem cemetery by the side of her husband. Lizzie Askland was born January 28, 1871, near Slater and died at the Mary Greeley hospital at Ames April 23, 1944, at the age of 73 years, 2 months and 25 days. Her parents were Colbein and Bertha Askland. She was baptized by Rev. O. Sheldahl, and confirmed by Rev. H. C. Holm, in the Lutheran faith. Her marriage to Christ Ersland took place June 22, 1904. They made their home on a farm near Slater. Her husband died in 1935 and she moved to Slater. Mrs. Ersland at one time served as deaconess in the Lutheran church. She was active in Sunday school work and other organizations of the church. She helped to organize the Women's Auxiliary Society of the church. She also was active in the cause of temperance and belonged to the W.C.T.U. She is survived by one brother, Tom Askland, of Reeder, N. D., and two sisters, Mrs. O. J. Viland of Denver, Colo.; and Mrs. Malinda Severtson of Ames, also a large number of relatives and friends.
