Funeral Services at Slater for Mart Thompson
Slater, Sept. 14.--Funeral services for Mart Thompson were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the home and 2 o'clock at the Bethlehem church. The services in charge of Rev. E. R. Rorem, who took for his text, Isaiah 55-6. Miss Marie Folgero and Mrs. Bertha Nervig arranged the many beautiful floral offerings.
The Riis quartette sang two selections, "Beautiful Garden of Prayer" and "The Beautiful Land." The acting pallbearers were Robert Munson, J. C. Munson, J. C. Ersland, Andrew Maland, Matt Mikelson, Oran Newman and H. J. Peterson. The honorary pallbearers were Chas. Skortman, Swan Johnson, M. S. Heggen, A. L. Peterson, H. L. Buche, Ralph Clark, Clayton Lande and Ray Cole. Burial was made in the Bethlehem cemetery.
Mart Thompson was born on a farm near Slater, November 19, 1995 and died at his home in Slater, Sept. 11, 1939 at the age of 53 years, 9 mos., and 22 days. The family moved to Slater in 1907. Mr. Thompson was employed in Des Moines, Minneapolis and Chicago at various times. He returned to Slater in 1928. Six and a half years ago he bought the Slater Produce Co., which he was still conducting. He was an active member of the Slater community club. He was a kind brother and a faithful friend.
He is survived by his sister, Miss Nellie Thompson at home, a brother, Elmer Thompson of Des Moines, two nieces, Blanche and Bernice Thompson of Des Moines, an aunt, Mrs. Gundervagle of Ackley, Minn., and one uncle A. K.Johnson near Huxley and a host of relatives and friends.
