Last Rites for Wm. P. Lee Monday Morning

Funeral services for the later Wm. P. Lee, 53, who passed away Friday morning at 11 o'clock at his home, 721 Tenth street were held Monday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Patrick's Catholic church where a Solemn Requiem Mass was attended by a large number of relatives and friends.

The Reverend D. A. Gorman of Webster City, former pastor of the deceased, was celebrant of the mass, Rev. Joseph Murphy of St. Anthony was deacon and Rev. James D. Mahoney of Nevada was sub-deacon.

The Rev. J. J. Kliner of Ames assisted St. Patrick's choir with the singing of the mass and presided at the organ. Raymond O'Donnell sang as a closing hymn "O Take Me to Thy Sacred Heart." Other members of the choir present were Helen Plavets, Alma Baldus, and Frieda Prati.

The funeral sermon was preached by Father Mahoney who paid a splendid tribute to the deceased who had lived in this community for forty-eight years.

The casket bearers were from the Nevada post office, John Walker, postmaster, Emmett Armstrong, former postmaster, J. G. Berka, John W. Peterson, B. A. Fetterhoff and Chas. B. Rees.

Committal services at Catholic cemetery were in charge of Father Mahoney.

At Nevada Post Office

Mr. Lee served in the Nevada post office, with the exception of a short period he was in Wyoming, since January 17, 1917, when he was first appointed sub-clerk. He had served as regular clerk since October 1, 1923, having served under postmasters C. P. McCord, H. E. Hadley, Emmett Armstrong and John Walker.

During his years as Nevada post office employee, Mr. Lee served most efficiently. His endorsements come not only from the postmasters under whom he had worked, and the other post office employees with whom he had associated for many years, but from the general public as well which he served courteously and faithfully.

He was a man devoted to his home and family but was ever ready to help young or old alike outside the home. His interest in the youth was a testimonial to the kindliness of his heart.

Born in Council Bluffs

William P. Lee was born at Council Bluffs, Nov. 20, 1893, a son of Philip and Mary Lee. He came to Nevada with his parents when about five years of age and grew to manhood in this community. He attended the Nevada schools and also Oak Park academy for a time.

On June 16, 1915 he was married in St. Patrick's church to Miss Mabel McConnell of Nevada, the late Reverend Michael Nicholls performing the ceremony.

To this union were born two children, Dr. Robert W. Lee of Algona and NaDiene, Mrs. Howard Stillman of Algona, they, with the wife and mother survive him. Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. Anna Lee Horsman of Des Moines, one grandson, Billy Lee of Algona, other relatives and a host of friends.

Five years ago Mr. Lee suffered a severe heart attack from which he never fully recovered. His death Friday morning came after a few hours illness.

Rosary Service

On Sunday evening at 8 p.m. the Rosary service was held at the Ryan Funeral Home where the body was lying in state surrounded by the many beautiful floral offerings which were expressive of the high regard in which the deceased was his in this community.

Many spiritual bouquets were also given in his memory.

Among those from out of town in attendance at the last rites were Dr. and Mrs. R. W. Lee and son Billy of Algona, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Stillman of Algona, Mrs. Anna Lee Horsman, Donald Horsman and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Horsman of Des Moines, Frank O'Mara of Rock Valley, Robert Lee of Albia, Joe O'Mara of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Mathias and daughter of Waterloo, Mr. and Mrs. Jim McClure of Knoxville, Mrs. Ella Horsman of Knoxville, Mrs. Delno Flanagan of Pleasantville, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Spain of Altoona, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Rush and son of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. D. Lawrence Peterson of Ames.
