Funeral Services For Lydia May Groomes At Lutheran Church

Funeral services for Lydia May Groomes, 62, were held from Memorial Lutheran church Monday, April 14, at 2 p. m. with Rev. E. P. Windman officiating.

There were a number of beautiful floral offerings and also a number of memorial gifts to the building fund of the church. The flowers were arranged by Mrs. Tollif Dueland and Mrs. Pete Durby.

Mrs. Don Voelker, soloist sang "Abide With Me" and "Old Rugged Cross," accompanied by Leslie Henderson.

Casket bearers were J. W. Day, Doyle Elliott, Lloyd Jensen, O. F. Nelson, Victor Sloniger, Sam Switzer.

The W.R.C. attended the funeral in a body

Burial was in the Nevada cemetery.

Obituary

Lydia May Groomes, daughter of Christian and Barbara Ruch was born near Hudson, Illinois in McLean county, February 19th, 1890. She departed from this life at the Story County Hospital on April 11, 1952 at the age of 62 years, one month and 23 days.

At two years of age she moved to Washburn, Illinois, with her parents. Then at the age of 12 she moved to a farm near Mansfield, Illinois, where she grew to womanhood.

She was united in marriage to Winfield Henry Groomes on February 12th, 1908, at Urbana, Ill. In the spring of 1914 they moved to a farm near Nevada. She lived there until the fall of 1949 when she moved to town.

She is survived by five children. They are Alvin of Cambridge, Glen of Nevada, Forest of Colo, Bernice Myers of Nevada and Dale of Collins; sixteen grandchildren and one great granddaughter; also five brothers and one sister. They are Frank Ruch, William Ruch and Mrs. Clara Primmer of Mansfield, Illinois, and Albert Ruch of Oakley, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one daughter, Helen Mae, in infancy.

A host of many relatives and friends mourn her death.
