Memorial Services Held at Huxley for Emil Westvold

Huxley, Apr. 18--Memorial services for Alfred Emil Westvold, Technician Fifth Grade, U. S. Army,, who was killed in action while serving with General Patton's Third Army, were held Sunday, April 7, at the Palestine Lutheran Church near Huxley.

Leona Brendeland played the organ prelude, followed by scripture and prayer by Rev. H. E. Jacobson, who also gave the sermon. Rev. Peder Buland gave a shrot talk, and music was furnished by Eugene Newgaard and Arlin Severson who sang "Saved By Grace." Presentation of the flag was made by the American Legion, Mathis Wire Post No. 233, and Taps were sounded by Orval Hellekson.

Following is a brief life sketch of the deceased.

Alfred Emil Westvold, son of Severt and Helga Westvold, was born at Huxley, Iowa, December 31, 1915. He was baptized by Pastor Buland and confirmed by Pastor Martin Hall of Kenyon, Minn.

On October 9, 1938 he was united in marriage to Helen Marguerite Wee. During the war he was engaged in defense work until he enlisted in the U. S. Army and was inducted November 27, 1943. He received his basic training at Fort Riley, Kansas, and left for overseas in July, 1944, where he was with the Mechanical Cavalry of the Sixth Armored Division of Patton's Third Army. He was wounded in action on the western front April 17, 1945, one year ago today.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, one daughter Barbara Jane,, and one son, Larry Dean; also his parents, four brothers and four sisters, Selmer of Story City, Bernard of Ames, Mrs. Anna Atha of Des Moines, Joseph, a student at Iowa State College, Marvin with the U. S. Marine Corps in China, and Mildred, Helen and Agnes at home. Blessed be his memory. "Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13.
