Funeral Services Held for Elmer Smay

Funeral services for Elmer E. Smay, 65, Nevada man, who died Wednesday, was held Friday afternoon at the Morfoot funeral home, after which interment was in the Nevada cemetery. Dr. J. O. Simon of Memorial Lutheran church, conducted the services.

Mr. Smay was a native son of Story County, having been born in Johnson Grove, April 24, 1868, and lived in or near Nevada all of his life.

He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Smay and the family home was in the Johnson grove neighborhood. He came to Nevada as a young man and here had been his home continuously since.

It was here that he was married to Miss Hattie Crippen and here that their three children were born.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife, Mrs. Hattie Smay, one son, Joseph Smay, of the University of Oklahoma and two daughters, Mrs. Alice Smay-Rudenick of Ames and Miss Venus Smay, now connected with a hospital in New York.

All arrived here in time for the funeral services.

Death occurred at the state hospital at Clarinda where Mr. Smay had been taken some months before for treatment. A stroke of apoplexy was the cause of his passing.

Mr. Smay had worked for many years as a painter and decorator and was a tradesman recognized in the community as reliable and competent.
