Former Pastor Fernald Church Passed Away

Funeral services fro Emery David Fiscel, organizer of the Fernald Church of the Brethren and for two years Elder and pastor of the Maxwell church, were held Thursday in the Dunkard Brethren church at Yale. The services were conducte by Brother A. G. Fahnstock of Brunnersville, Pa. Burial was in the Brethren cemetery near Panora.

Elder Fiscel passed away Tuesday morning having been in failing health for the past two years.

Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Hankins and Mr. and Mrs. Will Mead of Fernald and a large number from Maxwell were in attendance at the funeral on Thursday.

The deceased has a large number of friends in Story county, as in addition to his pastorate here, he had frequently been called back to conduct funeral services.

The following obituary was read at the funeral services:

Emery David Fiscel, son of David and Mary Fiscel, was born at Franklin Grove, Ill., July 17, 1864. He died at his home near Yale, Iowa, Tuesday morning, Feb. 13, 1934, age 69 years and 6 months. When the deceased was about eight years old he came to Guthrie county with his mother, making their home with his sister and husband, who lived east of Yale.

He was united in marriage to Evelyn Henry on Nov. 13, 1884 near Yale.

To this union five sons were born: Fred, who died Aug 24, 1887, Ralph R. of Yale, Guy E. of Perry, Joy W. of Nevada, Iowa, and Warren H. of Panora.

In the year 1887, he felt the call of the Master to service and he united with the Dunkard Brethren at Panora, it having been the church of his ancestors. Realizing the possibilities in his Christian service, he was elected to the ministry in the church of his choice in October 1901. Since that time he has ever been ready to assist in any services, not only in his own church but any others. Many marriages, baptismal services and funerals has be conducted. His work in the church was always his greatest pleasure, the distance was never too far nor the load too heavy for him to go at any time.

He had been in poor health for the past two years and since October has been confined to his home. About three weeks ago he was taken to the hospital at Iowa City where the best medical aid was given, but to no avail. Granting his wish, he was brought home last Wednesday, from that time he rapidly grew weaker.

Realizing his condition he asked for his boys, who came and were by his bedside until the end. He was a most patient sufferer, a loving devoted companion and father who was ever ready to sacrifice himself to the service of his family. He leaves to mourn his loss his very devoted wife, four sons, one brother, Charles of Yale, who is the only surviving member of the family of seven children; seven grand children, one great grand child and a host of other relatives and a large circle of friends.
