THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, May, 1901, page 4, column 2. "The first fatality on the big bridge west of Boone, occurred April 27th, when Hugh Fetters, one of the workmen fell a distance of one hundred eighty-five feet and was instantly killed. That this is the first accident of any consequence seems almost miraculous. The immense structure is about completed."
