Funeral Rites Held Tuesday for Walt Cox

Zearing, Feb. 1--The Zearing community was shocked Sunday evening upon learning of the sudden death of Walt Cox. He was around as usual the day before and many visited with him Saturday evening. He had accompanied his son-in-law, Clair Obenchain to Nevada in the afternoon and his daughter, Mrs. Howard Wickham and family has spent the evening at the Cox home.

The following obituary was read at the funeral:

"William Walter Cox, one of the six children of William and Emily Cox, was born near Bangor, March 1, 1874, and passed away at his home in Zearing on Sunday morning at 1:30 o'clock, Jan. 26, at the age of 66 years, 10 months and 20 days.

"He was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Boucher also of Bangor on May 28, 1898. To this union were born five children: Cleo, now Mrs. Howard Wickham of Zearing; Alma, Mrs. E. L. Scott of Dunkerton; Gladys, Mrs. Claire Obenchain of Zearing; and Delos and Arthur, both of Waterloo.

"The Cox family has always resided in the Illinois Grove and Zearing communities with the exception of seven years at Elma and 10 year at Oelwein.

"Mr. Cox leaves to mourn his passing his wife, five children and 10 grandchildren, three brothers, Sam Cox of Zearing, Guy Cox of St. Anthony and Claude Cox of Clemons.

"Mr. Cox became a member of the Friends church at Bangor at the age of 16."

Funeral services were held in Zearing Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 28, at the Brouhard funeral home at 1:30 and at the Evangelical church at 2 o'clock.

Pallbearers were I. S. Madison, Floyd Steelman, Marion Phillips, Max McBride, Ross Holveck and Merle Curley.

Mrs. Verda Fisher, Mrs. Myrtle Golly, Glen McBride and Gilbert Womeldorff composed the quartette that sang several numbers. Miss Delores Whitaker was pianist.

The flowers which were many and beautiful were cared for by Mrs. Lela Adams and Mrs. Daisy LeFever.

Interment was in the Zearing cemetery, where Mr. Cox had been caretaker for the past year and a half and the cemetery organization will find it hard to replace him with one as neat and capable.

Among the relatives and friends attending the last rites for Mr. Cox were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Battles and family, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bttles, Mr. and Mrs. Gaylord Baldwin, Mr. and Mrs. Pink, Mr. and Mrs. Lafe Boucher, Mr. and Mrs. Deiter, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Boucher and Fern, all of Mingo; Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Brandenburg and son, Harry Bright of Oelwein; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bur--, Mrs E. M. Barnes, Richard Weatherman of Waterloo

Mr. and Mrs. George Gaunt and Mrs. Earl Gaunt of Cedar Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Claude Cox and Herb Andrews of Clemons; Will Boucher and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Boucher of St. Peter, Minn., Mr. and Chad Borton and family and --y Cox of St. Anthony; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Boucher and daughter of Webster City; Mr. and Mrs. Orley Cox of Hubbard.
