Rites for Amesite, Mrs. Lena Vasey To Be Wednesday
Mrs. Lena B. Vasey, 73, of 2816 Lincolnway in Ames died in the Mary Greeley Hospital Sunday at 5:20 p. m.
She was born Nov. 20, 1887 in Newton and moved with her parents to Collins. She attended the Collins School and graduated from high school at Hyde Park in Chicago. After her graduation she attended Iowa State Teachers College and then taught school in the McCallsburg and Collins Schools.
Mrs. Vasey was married in 1909 to Arthur A. Vasey of Collins, who preceded her in death in 1931.
She moved to Ames in 1937 where she was a member of the Collegiate Methodist Church, a member of the Laura Chapter of the O. E. S. and also of the Past Matrons Club in Ames. During World War II she had served as a nurses aid in Mary Greeley.
Survivors include three daughters, Charlotte M. Vasey of Iowa City, Mrs. Walter T. Federer of Ithaca, N. Y. and Eileen A. Vasey of Ames; one brother, William J. Burney of Iowa City; three sisters, Mrs. Florence Ozias and Alice Burney, both in Collins and Mrs. Elizabeth B. Schmidt of Iowa City, one grandchild and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p. m. in the Nichols Chapel of the Collegiate Methodist Church in Ames. The Rev. Wilbur Wilcox will officiate. Graveside service and burial in the Evergreen Cemetery at Collins will follow. The body will lie in state at the Adams Funeral Home in Ames.
A memorial fund has been established at the Collegiate Methodist Church.
