Held Funeral Rites at Collins for Ray Brown

Collins, Dec. 15 -- Funeral services for the late Ray Brown, who passed away at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines Monday afternoon Dec. 9, were held from the Collins Church of Christ Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the services n charge of Rev. Lloy Patton of the local church, assisted by the Rev. Warrick, pastor of the Peoria church.

Music was furnished by a quartet composed of Mrs. K. W. Tomlinson, Mrs. Geo. Holmes, Rev. Arthur Marston and Milton Hale, who sang "In the Sweet Bye and Bye", "God's Tomorrow" was sung as a solo by Mr. Hale. The accompanist was Mrs. Hugh Fertig. Flowers were cared for by Mrs. Basil Caple and Mrs. Richard Partridge.

Pallbearers were Chas. Swalwell, Harper White, Joe Aldrich, Ray Evans, Dan Wilson and Austin Pitcher. Burial was in the Evergreen cemetery in Collins.

The following brief obituary was read at the services.

"William Ray Brown, son of David and Elva Brown, was born at Collins, Ia., Jan. 19, 1894, and departed this life at Des Moines on Dec. 8, 1941, at the age of 46 years, 10 months and 19 days.

"On Jan. 25, 1914, he was united in marriage to Rhoda Dodd and to this union seven children were born, six of whom, with the wife, survive. They are Duane of Collins, Nadine, Maxine, Marlene, Bernadine and Harold, all at home. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Charles Hattery, and one brother Myrl Brown, both of Collins, and two grandchildren David and Darrell Brown.

His entire life was spent in the Collins community and until a few years ago, when he moved to the Peoria community. He was a quiet, unassuming man who made many friends and who sincerely join his family in mourning his death. As a kind husband and father and a good neighbor, his life was a day well spent and all who knew him anticipate that reunion "beyond the sunset."
