THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, January 7, 1928, page 1, column 6. "THOMAS DUESBURY - Thomas Duesbury, son of William and Hannah Duesbury was born at Burniston, near Scarborough, Yorkshire, England, November 16, 1867, and died at his home, near Collins, Iowa, June 2, 1928, at the age of 60 years, six months and sixteen days. In the year 1895 he emigrated to America. He located at Collins, Iowa, and made his home for several years with the Kimberly family. February 13, 1898, he was united in marriage to Miss Levenia Backous at Collins. To this union five children were born: John Henry, of Collins; Mrs. Hannah Elizabeth Davis, of Maxwell; George William, Eva Leona and Minnie Mildred at home. Besides his widow and children he leaves to mourn his departure, one grandchild, Thelma Nadine Davis; five brothers and sisters, John William, of Collins, and Mrs. Geo. Thompson, of Mingo; Arthur, Mrs. Anna Wilson and Mrs. Rachel Brown, who reside in England. He also leaves many nephews and nieces and a large circle of friends who value his friendship. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Mr. Duesbury was an active member of the Methodist Protestant church at Peoria, Iowa, for many years, always taking an active part in every interest of the church. He was a successful farmer and was actively interested in everything pertaining to community wellfare.** The funeral services were held from the Methodist Protestant church at Peoria and were in charge of Rev. C. J. Nutt, of Des Moines, who was assisted by Rev. Wm. Hartin, pastor of the local church. The music was furnished by a double quartet from Collins: Misses Mary Holmes and Zola Gilley, Mrs. G. W. Graham and Mrs. Jesse Torry, Messrs. John Witmer, James Gingles, Thos. Huntrod and Chas. Cooper with Mrs. H. E. Ozmun at the piano. The songs were special favorites of the deceased. The were Alone, Beautiful Isle of Somewhere, In the Upper Garden and Hame** Thine Own Way, Lord. The pall bearers were close friends of Mr. Duesbury and included Messrs. W. H. Thompson, Shannon Byers, S. J. Tomlinson, D. P. Ozmun, A. C. Hientz and Curt Campbell. The little church was filled to capacity with friends who came to pay their final tribute to a neighbor and friend, respected by all. The body was laid to rest in the beautiful Peoria cemetery, southeast of Maxwell." "We wish to express our grateful appreciation to the many friends for their kind and helpful sympathy extended to us during the illness and following the death of our beloved husband and father.
