Funeral Rites for Charles N. Stanton Wednesday Afternoon

Collins, July 16--Funeral services for the late Charles N. Stanton, who passed away Monday afternoon, July 12, at 2:30 at his home southwest of Collins, were held in the local Methodist church, Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with the pastor, the Rev. Duane Manning in charge. Music consisted of two songs, "Jesus Savior, Pilot Me," and "Sometime We'll Understand," sung by Mrs. L. M. Hall, Mrs. Ronald Good, Mrs. L. D. Holland and Mrs. Duane Manning, and a solo, "Sweet Hour of Prayer," sung by John Hughes of Camp Dodge, Des Moines. Mrs. C. R. Stone was pianist for the services.The floral offerings were very beautiful and were so numerous the pulpit and altar seemed a mall of flowers. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery at Collins with both honorary and active pallbearers attending at the church and grave.
The active pallbearers were C. R. Stone, Floyd Atwood, George Kimberley, --al Borts. J. W. Kimberley and Clarence Morrison, the Honorary pallbearers were Tim Shickells, Bert Cleverley, Guy Hardenburg, Chas. Cooper, J. W. Strtton, Frank Holland, Will Morrison and E. W. Martin.
A short obituary was read at the beginning of the services, and is in part as follows.
Charles N. Stratton, son of Jason and Naomi Stanton was born on a farm in Jasper County, southeast of Collins, July 29, 1871, and departed this life Monday afternoon, July 12, 1943, at the age of 71 years, 11 months and 13 days.
He grew to manhood in that community and was united in marriage to Miss Ruth Dickson. Their entire married life has been spent in and near Collins.
To this union two sons were born, Truman Earl and Joseph Jason and they with their mother survive.
Mr. Stanton had been in poor health for some time and had given up active farming. A stroke suffered a few days ago was the immediate cause of death.
He is survived by his wife, the sons Truman E. Stanton of Center Junction and Joseph J. Stanton of Des Moines; one sister Mrs. Will Deming of Des Moines; two grandchildren, John and Sara Stanton of Center Junction and a host of more distant relatives and friends, who sincerely mourn his passing.
Among relatives and friends attending the services from a distance were Cpl. and Mrs. Wallace Inman of Lincoln, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. Will Deming and daughter, Winefred, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hughes, Mr. and Mrs. John Hughes, Wayne Carver, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Jackson, Mrs. Tiffin Hall, Ed Stevenson and Chas. Dickson, all of Des Moines, Misses Lela and Margurette Hughes of Webster City; Mr. and Mrs. Grant Own of Newton; Lulu Petefish and Mrs. Ruth Masters of Elkhart; Mr. and Mrs. Jay Pearson and sons, Misses Nellie and Hazel Stark, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Carver, Mrs. Ursula Carver, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Tomlinson all of Maxwell; Charles Hall of Nevada; Mrs. Minnie Kimberley and Mrs. Ruth Goodenow of Colo.
