THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, September 2, 1897, page 1, column 3. "DENNISTON. - Mrs. James Denniston died at her home near Collins on Thursday, Aug. 26th, aged 50 years, 7 months and 8 days. Maria Hoke was born at Cincinnati, Ohio, Jan. 18, 1847 and departed this life at her home near Collins on Thursday, Aug. 26, 1897. She grew to womanhood near the place of her birth and was there married to James Denniston on Feb. 29, 1869, and of this happy union ten children were born, all of who reside near home except one daughter who lives in Kansas and was not present at the death or funeral. Mr. Denniston and wife moved to Iowa in 1871, and have made their home here ever since with the exception that in 188_ they went to Kansas and remained five years. Just before the message for her departure came, she called her children around her bed and gave them a talk such as only a dying mother can give. She told them that she was ready and willing to go and urged upon them to be good to their father. After some more motherly advice hey eyes were peacefully closed in death and another good life was ended. Mrs. Denniston annexed herself with the church at the age of 15 years and since has followed the precepts of her Master, and at her demise was a member of the M. P. church. The funeral was conducted on Friday at Collins by Rev. Sparks and the remains were sorrowfully and tenderly laid to rest. The family has a wide circle of friends in this vicinity who extend heartfelt sympathy." "CARD OF THANKS - James Denniston and family desire to express their heartfelt thanks and sincere gratitude to friends who so ably assisted and comforted them in the death and burial of wife and mother. May the Lord bless and reward each and every one is our daily prayer."
