THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, May 15, 1902, page 1, column 2. "OBITUARY. David Davis was born in Breconshire, Wales, May 10, 1848, and died at his home near Nevada, Story county, Iowa, May 8, 1902, thus lacking but two days of being 54 years old. Mr. Davis was ill only about three weeks. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Williams, of Breconshire, Wales, June 12, 1873. He leaves a wife and six children, Mrs. Mary J. Rupp, of Maxwell; Mrs. Cordelia Baker, of Nevada; William J., Etta E., Ruth and Leroy, the latter four residing at home. Deceased was a member of the Baptist church in Wales and when he removed to America he united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church at Maxwell. A funeral service was held at the home north of Nevada after which the body was brought to Maxwell cemetery for interment. Rev. Clay Bobbitt, pastor of the Cumberland Presbyterian church, of this city, had charge of the services at the grave. Social Lodge, No. 463, I. O. O. F., of Maxwell, of which Mr. Davis had been an honored member, also held a short service assisted by Jeptha Rebekah Lodge, No. 187. Mr. Davis at one time lived on a farm a few miles southeast of Maxwell and is well known to all our citizens. He was a man of highest integrity and was ever trying to assist in doing good to his fellowmen. He was a man who will be much missed both by his sorrowing relatives and other friends in this community and the one in which he resided at the time of his death."
