Last Rites Held Tuesday Afternoon For Miss Anna Batman

Funeral services for Miss Anna Batman, lifelong educator, who passed away early Sunday morning at the Mary Greeley hospital in Ames following a stroke of paralysis suffered two weeks before, were held Tuesday afternoon from Central Presbyterian church with the pastor, the Rev. James D. Ransom, officiating.

Mrs. F. W Cowgill was at the organ playing a number of well known hymns.

the many beautiful floral pieces which banked the bier were silent testimonials to the far reaching influence of her splendid life. The flowers were in charge of Mrs. Albery, Mrs. Sayers and Mrs. Byron Dickey.

The casket bearers were Dr. T. E. Williams, F. C. Tarman, Byron Dickey, H. J. Sayers, H. P. Albery and J. K. Banks. Committal was in the family lot in the Nevada cemetery.

The following obituary was read at the services yesterday:

"Camille Ann Batman, daughter of James and Ovanda Purkhiser Batman was born August 1, 1863, and passed away in the hospital in Ames, October 15, 1944, at the age of 76. She spent her childhood in Nevada and was graduated from the local high school. After teaching at Story City she returned to Nevada to teach and later serve as principal of the high school. During vacation periods she took her college work at the State Teachers College at Cedar Falls. After leaving Nevada she went to LeMar, Colorado, where she taught until 1914, when she took a position in the school system in Lincoln, Nebraska. The taught in Lincoln until 1934 and was serving as principal of a school in Lincoln at the time she retired. Since 1934 she has made her home with her brother in Nevada.

Miss Batman was a charter member of Chapter AM, P. E. O. in Nevada, a member of the Eastern Star in Lincoln, and for 48 years has been a member of the Central Presbyterian church of Nevada.

She is survived by two brothers, C. A. Batman of Nevada, with whom she made her home in recent years, and Frank Batman of Ames. She is also survived by a number of nephews and nieces, and a great host of friends, young and old, who knew her and love her for her brilliant mind, winning ways, stimulating personality. All over this country there are people who came under the instruction and supervision of Miss Batman in school, and whose lives are stronger and richer because of knowing her."

Among those from out of town here for the last rites were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Batman, Mrs. Kenneth Batman, Mrs. Albert Batman and Mr.s and Mrs. Pete Morris of Ames; Guy Lucas and Mr. and Mrs. Lee Halsey of Madrid; Dr. Lillian Purkhiser of Des Moines; Mrs. Archie Kay of Omaha, Neb.; E. Z. Hornberger, Omaha, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Milton Thompson and daughter Barbara of Story City; Mr. and Mrs. Dean Batman, Audrey and Helen Batman, Jean Hostetter and Mr. and Mrs. Lew Waltz of Colo and Mrs. E. L. McConkie of Cedar Rapids.
