Funeral Services for W. J. Hendrickson at Story City
McCallsburg, Feb. 19--The funeral of Will J. Hendrickson was held on Monday, Feb. 6, at the Grace Evangelical church in Story City, with the pastor, Rev. Walter E. Ulrich, in charge, following a prayer service at the home.
The pall bearers were John Clausen, Eric Alsager, John Erickson, Edward Charlson, Herman Ahrens and Bert Hill.
A mixed quartette consisting of Mrs. Wm. Petersson, Mrs. Everett Anderson, George W. Sowers and Arnold Anderson with Barbara Peterson at the piano furnished the music. Burial was made in the Hendrick family lot in the McCallsburg cemetery.
Wm. James Hendrickson, son of Charles and Eliza Hendrickson, was born on a farm north of Zearing March 7, 1871, and passed away at his home in Story City, Feb. 1, 1945, at the age of 73 years, 10 months and 21 days.
He with his parents settled in McCallsburg at an early age, upon reaching maturity he conducted a dray line service. Then he became employed by the M. and St. L. Railroad working at the Story City end of branch, later taking up his residence there, which has been his home the past 40 years. For about twenty year he was employed by the railroad. He then served as night watchman in Story City a few years and then was employed at the Story City Light Plant until the time of his death.
Mr. Hendrickson was preceded in death by the parents and two brothers, Cornelius and Ira, and two sisters, Mrs. Ida McCarthy and Mrs. Patience Boston. Another sister Mrs. Ella Boston of McCallsburg survives him.
On July 9 1940 he was united in marriage to Rillie Peterson [should be Pederson] of Story City, who survives him as well as two step-daughters along with many neighbors and friends.
The death of Mr. Hendrickson came as a great surprise to his relatives and friends. He had been ill with the flu but had been back at work several days on this Thursday evening when death came so unexpectedly. He had been down town in the evening.
