Funeral Services For John Dirksen Sunday Afternoon

Funeral services for John Dirksen, who passed away Thursday March 29 at his home, 633 Q avenue, at the age of 89 years, three months and 23 days, were largely attended at the Seventh Day Adventist church Sunday afternoon at 2:30. Elder James D. Smith officiated at the last rites.

Prof. Edwards sang two songs "Asleep in Jesus" and "No Night There."

The many beautiful flowers which banked the bier were silent testimony to the love and esteem in which the deceased had been held. The flowers were cared for by Mrs. Albert Olson and Mrs. Frank Arnett.

The pall bearers were Glen R. Newton, H. P. Albery, Andrew Hlad, Louis Hill, Elston Adams and Elmer Anderson.

Committal was in the Nevada cemetery by the side of the wife who had passed away in Nevada 18 years ago.

John Dirksen was born in Emden, Germany Dec. 6, 1855 and passed away in Nevada, Ia., Mar. 29, 1945 at the age of 89 years, 3 mos. and 23 days.

In 1880 he came to America and settled near Faulkner, Iowa. In 1882 he was united in marriage with Tena Jurgens and to this union was born seven sons and 3 daughters: Cornelius of Sumner, George of Hampton, Oley of Ames, Rinehart of Pampa, Teas and Herman of Mason City, Anna of Nevada, Margaret Habenicht of Grundy Center and Betty Hansen of Nevada. Mrs. Dirksen passed away 18 years ago, John, two years ago and Henry, 3 years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Dirksen made their home in Franklin County until 1914 when they located in Nevada. Mr. Dirksen was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church for over 50 years.

All the children were present at the funeral service: Mr. and Mrs. George Dirksen of Hampton, Cornelius Dirksen of Sumner, Mr. and Mrs. Oley Dirksen, Ames, Mr. and Mrs. Rinehart Dirksen, Pampa, Texas, Herman Dirksen of Mason City, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Hobenicht, Grundy Center and Anna Dirksen, Mr. and Mrs. Lew Hansen and Midge and Mrs. Earl Miller of Nevada.

Those here from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Chris Dohrmann, Latimer, Mr. and Mr. Luke Messels, Mason City; Mr. and Mrs. John W. Dirksen, Danne, Barbara and John Phillip of Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Dirksen, David, Sandra and Sidney of Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dirksen and Jimmy of Fredericksburg; Ruby Dirksen, Hampton; Mrs. Mildred Corwin, Waterloo; Mr.s Eugene Roberts, Hampton; Cpl. Earl H. Miller, Sedalia, Mo.

Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Jurgens, Mr. and Mrs. Hermand Jurgens, Mr. and Mrs. R. Dirksen, Mrs. Harvey Hemmes, Mrs. Hemme Hemmes, all of Latimer; Mrs. Jerry Jurgens, Mrs. Helen Dirksen, Ames; Mrs. Margaret Dirksen, Des Moines.

Besides the children Mr. Dirksen is survived by eleven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Two grandsons, Cpl. Duane Dirksen and T-Sgt. Floyd Dirksen are in service in France."
