THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, June 25, 1902, page 8, column 3. "OBITUARY - Patrick Cunningham was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1810 and died at the home of his son, in Wadsworth, Nevada, U. S. A., June 15, 1902, aged eighty-two years. Mr. Cunningham came to the United States when he was fourteen years old, he enlisted in the 9th Vermont Volunteers and served gallantly in the Civil war. He came to Iowa in 1871 and settled on a farm south of Maxwell where he lived for about twenty-five years. Mrs. Cunningham died April 18, 1900, being seventy-three years old, and since that time Mr. Cunningham has been making his home with his son, John, at Wadsworth, Nevada, where he died. Mr. Cunningham was one of the very best citizens of Washington township, Polk county, and was honored by all who knew him. A more accommodating and kind hearted man would be hard to find any place. In his business dealings he was strictly honest and was liberal to a fault. He will long be remembered by a host of friends in this community. The remains were shipped to this city, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. John Cunningham, of Wadsworth, Nevada, and Wm. Cunningham, of Salt Lake City. Interment was made in the Holy Cross cemetery by the side of Mrs. Cunningham and the funeral was in charge of Father Quinn. Mr. Cunningham died from the effects of erysipelas, death came very quiet and suddenl7y as it was not thought that he was dangerously ill. Thus a good man has gone and the bereaved family have the sympathy of all. Card of Thanks. We extend our sincere thanks to the neighbors and friends whose kindness and sympathy was so freely given us during our recent great bereavement in the death of our father. May a like affliction be spared you all for many years. W. E. and John Cunningham.
